Truth's Appearing

In the fourth chapter of Paul's second epistle to Timothy he speaks of the "crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge," shall give to all those "that love his appearing." The apostle warns the followers of Christ against false doctrines, disputes, and endless discussions, and urges Timothy to be faithful, when he says, "Watch thou in all things, ... make full proof of thy ministry;" a demand which as surely rests upon us today if we count ourselves among those who love Truth's appearing.

If we had been asked, before we became students of Christian Science, what we understood by the appearing of God or of Christ, it is likely most of us would have replied that it meant the coming of Christ to judge the world; but Paul's words respecting those that "love his appearing" would hardly have been applicable in such case, for had we not been accustomed to think of that coming, according to the words of an old hymn, as
