Edinburgh (Scot.) News
Much passes under the name of Christian Science which is diametrically opposed to it, and I must again repeat that hypnotism, mesmerism, mental suggestion, and anything which can be classed under the name of psycho-therapeutics has no connection whatever with Christian Science, and is, we are convinced, highly injurious to health and character. Christian Science is simply primitive Christianity; its healing is effected through the realization of the perfect love which casteth out fear, and so gets rid of that mental perturbation which frequently leads to insanity. It not only bids men lead a better life, but shows them how to do this, how to get rid of evil thoughts, desires, and passions, and thus it enables them to gain that normal, natural self-control which is the foundation of all true sanity. It destroys the fear of evil and the attraction of evil, and gets rid of belief in selfishness by turning thought from self-consciousness and selfpity to find health and peace in the wholesome activities of good.
