Santa Cruz (Cal.) Sentinel

Christian Science is not based upon the human mind as a source of healing, but it employs the method taught by Jesus, who showed that God, the divine Mind, is the healer of both sin and sickness. If the teaching that God's healing can render unnecessary any resort to the surgeon's knife, is to be styled "dangerous" and "pernicious," would the one who makes this assertion regard the works of Jesus and his disciples as "dangerous" and "pernicious"?

Our critic generously admits that Christian Science can cure those diseases which the patients "have not got." This is a distinct gain, for this method of cure elevates the morals of the patient, while at the same time saving him from the dangers of surgery and from the risk of contracting injurious drug habits. But Christian Science goes much farther than this, and has so established its claims by well-authenticated cases of cure of cancer, tuberculosis, and other so-called organic diseases, that the evidence of its efficacy cannot be refuted.
