It is with deep gratitude that I tell of my wonderful healing through the reading of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I had received an injury to the spine from lifting my husband during an attack of fever. So severe was this injury that soon after his recovery I was taken very ill, suffering from this, also from heart and stomach trouble, pronounced by the best medical doctors to be incurable. After being confined to my bed for several weeks, I was able to get up, only to find myself a semiinvalid. Then came the constant use of different remedies, my husband not being satisfied if there was not something being done for me; but each remedy left me worse than I was before. Three years prior to my acceptance of Christian Science I seemed to lose strength and courage daily. I had reached the extreme point of experience where human theories are impotent to save. Everything that love and persistence could do had been done, but I felt as one set adrift on an unresting sea, where the waves of pain and suffering tossed me to and fro without hope or God. I had found no saving power in the church of which I was a member, but I forced myself to attend the services until this became a mockery to me, and my very being, as it seemed, rebelled. I then decided to search for God elsewhere, but all the beautiful promises of the Scripture faded into the weakness of asserted medical and health laws which seemed to clutch me in an iron grasp.

For eighteen months I had not eaten a meal or spent an evening with my family. I had become almost a physical wreck. I was not able to be up over four hours a day, and some days not at all. But at last a ray of light gleamed from between the pages of a magazine in the expression of gratitude for Christian Science from a gentleman who was telling why he was a Christian Scientist. I read and reread this article, fearfully hoping that the way would open up for me to get that wonderful book of which he told. My desire was soon to be fulfilled, for in a few days a young lady asked me to try Christian Science, and also borrowed Science and Health from the public library for me. My husband and I started to read it on the seventeenth day of January, 1907, and in a few days I was able to be helped down-stairs. In two and a half weeks I was well, the healing coming instantaneously one morning while I was reading this book. When my husband came home that evening and found me down-stairs he seemed very anxious, but I told him not to be uneasy,—that I was well, and did not believe I would have to go to bed again for that trouble; and I have not.

Since then we have had many opportunities to prove the healing power of Christian Science, and it has never failed us. Words cannot express my gratitude for the literature, and for membership in First Church of Christ, Scientist, of this city, also for class instruction from one of Mrs. Eddy's students, which has proved a great source of help to me. I have been enabled to understand God as the divine Principle that heals.—Mrs. Mildred Willis Kelley, Quincy, Ill.
