No one has more occasion for gratitude for Christian Science...
No one has more occasion for gratitude for Christian Science than myself. It is over three years since I first began to read our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I read it for a few days, but I did not seem to understand it, so laid it aside for a more convenient season. It was about four weeks after this that our little girl of four years was dreadfully burned, her face and even the inside of her mouth and nose being affected. I called in a lady who lived near and who was a Christian Scientist, and begged her to do something for the child. She said she would do the best she could, and in about five minutes the little one was quietly asleep. When the child awoke, two hours later, she was able to eat without any inconvenience. In two weeks her face was perfectly healed, although a doctor who saw her at the time said she would be disfigured for life; but no scars were left.
Since that time many ailments have been overcome, among them whooping-cough, which was met in three weeks; also acute lung trouble, from which our five-weeks-old baby suffered, was overcome in about three treatments. Our little daughter of two and a half years has been healed of a physical deformity which otherwise would have required an operation; but it has been overcome in Christian Science. I myself have been healed of female weakness, also of an exceedingly bad temper.
For all these physical benefits I am indeed grateful, but they are as nothing compared to the spiritual quickening and knowledge of God gained in Christian Science, and the peace of mind which is always with us, even if there is to material sense seeming discord. We know that behind the cloud the light of Truth is ever shining. My sincere prayer and desire is that I may be found worthy to bear the name Christian Scientist. I am indeed grateful to God, also to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for Christian Science.
