I was healed through Christian Science in the early part of 1892. Previous to this I had known of only one case of healing by this method of treatment, but was very much impressed with it, as the condition was a chronic one. So, when I needed help for what a doctor called a serious condition, caused by female trouble, I desired to have help from the same source. To please my husband, however, I had a medical doctor for several weeks, who told me that the symptoms indicated great weakness, and strongly advised against exertion of any kind. He said it would be better for me to go to bed and be quiet, but that if I would sit up, I must not walk across the floor for six months, possibly a year, as he feared serious results from exertion of any sort.

I tried to be faithful to the doctor's instructions for a number of weeks, and then, finding that the symptoms were worse than ever, I insisted on having Christian Science treatment. I wrote to a practitioner who was then at Muscatine, Iowa, and I was practically healed by one treatment, although treatment was kept up for about ten days longer. From the first day the alarming symptoms disappeared, never to return, and I began to do my housework and have continued to work and to walk all I wanted to since then without any bad results. This experience gave me a strong desire to know more about Christian Science, as I had a feeling that it was of God. About a year later I took up the study, and found that it was indeed from God, a revelation of God to mankind, and that we can apply it to inharmonious mental and moral conditions as well as to physical discords.

I also came to know that this remedy is at hand in every time of need, because I found that God is always present. Since then I have asked for help only for physical trouble, and that was in a severe attack of neuralgia, with inflammation, severe pain, and blindness in one eye. The blindness was overcome inside of forty-eight hours, and the swelling lessened at once but did not leave entirely for a couple of weeks. This time my help came from a practitioner in St. Louis. I have always felt very grateful for what Christian Science has done for me. The physical healing is a great blessing, but the spiritual interpretation of the Bible which it gives opened up to me a new era. Life has never seemed the same since I learned that God is man's Life and that consequently life really holds nothing but good. This does not always appear to the outward vision, but I have learned not to judge "after the sight of the eye" but to "judge righteous judgment."
