As I greatly enjoy the many testimonies of healing given in the Sentinel each week, the thought came to me that perhaps there were those who would like to read the story of my own healing, a healing through the power of divine Love, and which was quite remarkable. In April, 1905, I found myself in poor health and gradually losing ground, although prior to that time I had been considered a good specimen of physical manhood. Realizing that my health was giving way, I tried through materia medica various methods to improve it, consulting several doctors, until, in 1908, four of them, after deliberating for a long time, informed me that if I had any worldly affairs which required my attention, I had better attend to them without delay. Since then three of the four physicians who thus sentenced me have themselves passed beyond.
My physical ills were complicated,—a serious bowel disorder, catarrh of long standing, hemorrhoids of thirty-seven years' duration, and a stomach difficulty covering many years. During this time I had become very much reduced in weight. While I was sojourning in the country, my good wife called my attention to Christian Science and advised me to take up the study of the same. She also sent me some reading matter, but I did not at once become interested. On returning home in December, 1908, I however began in earnest, not only to read, but to study carefully Science and Health, also to attend the services Sunday mornings and the Wednesday evening meetings, all of which proved of great benefit to me. I gained a concept of God that was satisfying, something for which I had longed for many years. An improved condition at once manifested itself, and has continued until I am now practically a well man.
At this time I awoke to the fact that I had become a different man, that I was living with a new sense of personality, old habits had disappeared unconsciously, and in many ways life seemed different, but brighter. Every one I met seemed so changed, every one cheerful, happy, and harmonious, until at last I awoke to the fact that a great change had gradually come to me, that I had just learned or was learning how to live. My neighbors have since told me that during the winter of 1908 they expected daily to hear I had passed on.
