It is with the profoundest gratitude to God, also to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, that I attempt to enumerate a few of the many blessings which have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science. It is six years since I began the study of her teaching in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," together with the Bible.

For nine years previous to this I had been confined to my bed nearly all of the time. The best medical skill that the state afforded had been employed for me; I went from one sanitarium to another, but each succeeding year found me a greater sufferer than the preceding one. My case was diagnosed as extreme nervous illness superinduced by serious internal conditions, and my weight was reduced to sixty-nine pounds. At two different times I underwent very critical operations with the hope that health and strength would follow, but after a further wait of four years, the last six months of which time my condition seemed most critical, I despaired of life itself, and for the first time in the nine years' experience I was ready to give up material means and to try Christian Science.

My husband secured the services of a faithful Christian Science practitioner from a distant city. She came to me at once and agreed to stay in the home three days. The first treatment was given about midday. The next day I arose at dawn and dressed myself, the first time in six months that I had sat up longer than five minutes at a time without heart failure followed by a few days of increased suffering. This morning was indeed the dawn of a new day to me, and I quietly walked downstairs and went about the rooms, taking delight in the inspection of our new home, into which I had been carried two months before but had never been able to be taken downstairs to enjoy it. I shall never forget the intense joy of that early morning hour; I had been a prisoner for nine years and was suddenly awakened to blissful freedom, for both literally and figuratively speaking all things had become new to me, and for the first time in my life I realized the real nature of God's children. No words can express the gratitude and the joy that filled the hearts of my dear husband and our two little girls, who as yet had never known the real companionship of a mother.
