I appreciate the coming of the Sentinel each week, and derive much help and encouragement from the articles and testimonies therein, especially as I have no one to talk with on the subject, for I know of no Christian Scientist living within twenty-five miles of my home; but I offer my experience for publication, hoping that it may be helpful to some one.
Fifteen years ago I was afflicted with severe stomach and bladder trouble; the muscles of my throat were also in such a condition that I could not swallow any solid food. Every material means which three skilful physicians could employ was of no avail, and the action of the heart became so weak that I experienced sinking spells. A friend then advised me to try Christian Science, of which I knew nothing; but as no hope for my recovery was held out to me from a medical standpoint, I decided to try it. Finally a Christian Scientist was consulted and took my case, and I rejoice to say that I realized benefit at once when the treatment commenced. I got up and attended to my household duties, ate anything I liked without any bad effect, and the following day I threw all my medicine away. Since that time I have relied wholly on Christian Science for my every need.
Occasionally I have had to call on a practitioner for help over rough places, but through her loving advice and the reading of our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and our other Christian Science literature, I have gained an understanding which has enabled me to make many beautiful demonstrations. For these proofs of God's care, and also for an enlarged understanding of the Scriptures, made possible by the divine revelation through our Leader, I am most grateful.
