The great message that Christian Science has brought...
Newcastle-on-Tyne Chronicle
The great message that Christian Science has brought to humanity is that they can be freed from the bondage of sin, sickness, and discord today, just as Jesus proved was the case two thousand years ago. Christian Science is no mere theory; it is a tree known by its fruits; and those fruits consist of the positive healing of disease and the destruction of sin in the manner taught and demonstrated by Jesus and his disciples during the first three centuries of the Christian era.
That the healing accomplished through the practice of Christian Science is "healing according to the gospel" is evident when it is remembered that Mrs. Eddy discovered Christian Science in that same "simple gospel of the Lord." for it was at the time when all other assistance had failed that she turned to this gospel and, through her spiritual understanding of what Jesus declared, realized that the great power of good which he came to reveal to mankind was still as operative as it had ever been; and it was this realization that enabled her to devote her life to giving and explaining this message, to which so many thousands scattered over the face of the earth today owe their very existence.
On page 31 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Christian Science text-book, Mrs. Eddy points out, referring to the teachings of Jesus, that "first in the list of Christian duties, he taught his followers the healing power of Truth and Love;" and Mrs. Eddy has emphasized the necessity of proving our understanding of his teachings, not merely by saying that what he said is true, but by demonstrating the scientific certainty that a correct understanding of what he taught his disciples is as efficacious in obliterating sin and disease today as at the time those teachings were first uttered. Again, in her search for a deeper understanding of this great subject, Mrs. Eddy used the Bible alone as her text-book; and it is the experience of every student of Christian Science, that in proportion to his study and understanding of Science and Health, the Bible becomes more clear, more practical, until he declares that it has become the most valued book in his possession.
