I have received a great many benefits from the testimonies in the Christian Science publications, also those heard at the Wednesday evening meetings; so I will endeavor to give a few statements of what Truth has done for me through an understanding of the Bible as explained by our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

In the spring of 1903 I accepted a position with the department of agriculture as assistant soil expert under government supervision. The following spring I was sent to Louisiana to map some soils, and during that summer I contracted a severe form of fever, chronic bowel trouble, and other ailments which generally accompany malaria as given in a medical diagnosis. After several months spent in trying to overcome the illness by medical treatment, material remedies, and the drinking of whisky as advised by people of that community, I was compelled because of my weakened condition to give up and return to my home in Ohio. I reached home in a very weakened condition, was confined to my bed, and under the care of the family physician, who made a careful examination and diagnosed my case as malarial fever, chronic bowel and kidney trouble, enlargement of the liver, and an organic heart difficulty, etc. I was under his care from September, 1904, till March of the following year, including two weeks at a sanitarium. Then, through the advice of a friend, treatment was taken from one of the leading osteopathic physicians in Columbus, who after four months advised me to try a change of climate; so I started to Denver, Col., in July.

For a few weeks the change seemed to benefit me, then like each of the preceding methods I had tried, it seemed to lose its effect and all the old ailments returned with full force. I was then like a drowning man grasping at a straw, and yielded to the advice of my roommate and commenced to read Science and Health. I had been brought up in a home of very religious parents, but had been taught that Christian Science was the religion of a few ignorant fanatics; therefore I would at first only read when alone in the room, for I did not want my roommate to think that I would read any such doctrines. After a few days, however, I began to catch some glimpses of the truth, laid aside my preconceived opinions, and asked many questions. I was then advised to take a few treatments of a practitioner, so as to have some of the questions explained in a practical manner.
