In April, 1908, I was taken with severe bladder trouble, and called on the medical fraternity for relief. After a month's treatment by our family physician I was somewhat better, but far from being cured. The doctor said that after thirty-two years of continuous service as a railway postal clerk, I was completely worn out and could not expect to be well.

About this time I began to read Science and Health, and although I did not understand it very well I kept on reading. After a few months the same illness came on again, with other complications. I suffered from a very severe pain in the head which affected my hearing, also a pain in my back and in my right leg, which became almost useless. During this last attack my eyesight also became greatly affected, so much so that I could not distinguish any object below a horizontal line.

In the mean time I had resigned my position in the post office department. I consulted another doctor, but his treatment did me no good whatever, and I called yet another, who was highly recommended. He made three examinations, and after the last of these he said that he did not feel justified in treating me without any certainty of success. He told my wife that probably I would not live more than three or four months at the longest, as I was suffering from an incurable disease. This was in January, 1909, but I am happy to say that I am still alive and enjoying very good health.
