In January, 1910, I contracted a severe cold

In January, 1910, I contracted a severe cold. After the attack was over, however, I noticed that the swelling of the throat which had accompanied the trouble was becoming more pronounced, so that I could wear a collar. At the same time I felt severe pain in the eyes, the sight of my left eye gradually grew weaker, and other distressing symptoms appeared. I was urged from all sides to consult an eye specialist, and there being no Christian Science practitioner in Wilhelmshaven, I was anxiously looking forward for the vacation time, which we expected to spend in Hannover.

The condition of my eye grew so bad, however, that I was hardly able to do the necessary reading and sewing, and the children would laugh at me in the street. When we came to Hannover, the practitioner had gone on a journey, and I therefore asked for absent treatment, with the result that after a little while I was able to sew and read without inconvenience. My relatives here were alarmed, however, and when the practitioner returned I went to see her twice or three times a week, and she helped me with great patience and love to walk in the right path. Treatment was discontinued early in October, the eye having become quite normal.

I am indeed thankful to God, and next to Him to our Leader, through whose untiring efforts it has been made possible for us to understand the truth.
