It is with love and gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, that I tell what Christian Science has done for me. It is two years since I took up the study. Christian Science found me a very unhappy woman, alone in the world, with the thought that I had nothing to live for; and the desire to end it all followed me continually. I was very melancholy, and dissatisfied with the doctrines of the churches. I had tried in the old way from childhood to be what the world calls a Christian, but I could never understand why God should punish His children with sickness and disappointments one after another, until they wished for death. But I am very thankful that God has led me into Science, where I find that God is Love and we have only to understand the divine Principle of being to be made whole. I am row living a happy life in truth and love.
When Christian Science found me I had been suffering with rheumatism over twenty-five years, and was sometimes helpless for weeks at a time. I also had heart and kidney trouble, which the doctors said could not be healed; and other internal troubles for which I had worn a supporter for over ten years. I had been treated by three different doctors, the last one saying I would never be well unless an operation was performed, to which I would not consent. I cried to God for help, but in February, 1909, I broke down and was helpless. I then sought help in Christian Science, and after the first treatment the pains were all gone. With two weeks' treatment and the study of the Bible and Science and Health I was a well woman. I was healed of by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," before having treatment. I never knew what happiness was until I came to Christian Science, for I did not know what it was to be without pain for one day.
Now I am well and happy, but the physical healing is not to be compared with the spiritual uplifting. Everything seems glorious, as I am able by my small understanding to help others. I am indeed grateful for having been led so patiently and lovingly into the paths of Truth.
