Gratitude for Christian Science impels me to tell others of the benefits I have received. In my childhood I suffered from hip disease, and the material methods employed left me with a shortened and weak leg, from which I suffered terribly when walking or when standing any length of time, though I wore a boot with a thick sole as a support. Six years ago I was suffering so severely that I was scarcely able to work at my profession, and I was repeatedly advised to consult a doctor; but fear overcame me, for I dreaded the hospital, having already undergone two operations on my leg. Then, as guided by divine Love, I was led to the house of an acquaintance who knew of Christian Science, and on my complaining of my distress, I was advised to try it, to which I agreed with a thankful heart. From that time I attended the service, which made such a wonderful impression on me that after the service I could walk more and more easily, feeling as if I were being supported. I subscribed to Der Herold der Christian Science, began to learn English, and with great joy I daily study the Bible and Science and Health, which with the Herold is my only reading.

A practitioner of Christian Science, who with great love and patience directed me to its teachings, treated me for some time, so that the seemingly obstinate error gradually yielded to the understanding of Truth. Besides this, I had been troubled for years with other ailments,—stomach and bowel trouble, which disappeared during the treatment. I had believed these ailments to be owing to my sedentary mode of life, but though this latter has not been changed, my thought has been lifted above the material, so that the spiritual understanding of God has enabled me to overcome the temptations of error through divine Truth. I can take long walks, and also stand for a long time, and have never had a return of such troubles as those from which I suffered before Christian Science found me. I now wear an ordinary boot.

I should also like to tell of a demonstration which was reached through the understanding of Truth. A few months ago I felt in what seemed the weaker hip severe pain at times, and a few days later I found difficulty in walking. In the evening I observed that the scars were inflamed and one place open, but I went to bed and declared the truth. The next day I went with a quiet mind to my work, knowing that I could not be separated from God, good, and in a short time the seemingly severe trouble had disappeared into its native nothingness. It is not possible for me to express in words the benefits I have received through Christian Science, but I thank God, and also our revered Leader, with my whole heart.
