"I BRING YOU GOOD TIDINGS."
What Solomon called "good news from a far country" is today becoming, in the light of Christian Science, the record of things at hand. That God is ever present, hence that He does dwell with men, is the word which Christians have heard from the beginning, and Christian Science demonstrates this. In the light of divine understanding all things are become new, and therefore it is with a deep sense of the essential sacredness of every least act of men done in the name of good, that The Christian Science Monitor is publishing good news.
True religion is not only something which lifts us to hope for better things in a far-off time and place, but it is the understanding of Life, working in us here and now to bring to pass the kingdom of God. All down the centuries men have prayed, "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." The interpretation which Mrs. Eddy puts on these words, "Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever-present;" "Enable us to know,—as in heaven, so on earth,—God is omnipotent, supreme" (Science and Health, p. 17), coincides with Jesus' own, "Know that it is near, even at the doors;" and, "The kingdom of God is at hand." There is no place where good is not, and this must become apparent to dwellers on earth if they are faithful to the divine Principle of being which Jesus revealed. He taught and lived this Principle. He showed how earthly discords of every sort become harmonized, till peace and beauty appear where the opposite seemed to be, for him who knows God.
Therefore, when the progress of the cause of Christian Science brings it about that a daily newspaper is published, it is evidence that there are glad tidings of good things to be published to the world. All things must become new before the kingdom of heaven can be brought to pass. We must rise daily into higher and higher sense of the reality that lies back of all these feeble human efforts at right doing. It is not by disowning human endeavors toward rightness that we rise, but by translating them into the pure language of the kingdom.
