The teachings of Christian Science are not what is generally considered to be orthodox, since the latter teaching declares that sickness may be sent by God, so that when material remedies fail death is accepted as divinely ordered. Christian Science refutes all such statements, and maintains that God heals sickness, and proves this in many instances by practical results, based upon the interpretation of the Bible, as given by Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Mere perusal of this work will not reveal the rule governing the healing; it is spiritual understanding which discerns it.

As a result of Mrs. Eddy's discovery, there are Christian Science churches and societies throughout the entire world, and every member of these churches gives glory to God, and at the same time expresses deep gratitude for her interpretation of the Scriptures. The opponents of Christian Science are many, but Mrs. Eddy advises her followers, in the words of Christ Jesus, "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." It was that kind of Christianity which accounted for her healing over forty years ago, and which has kept her well; and will help all others in the degree they manifest it. Paul wrote: "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."
