Grant me: To bruise the serpent's head (Genesis iii. 15); to consider my latter end (Deuteronomy xxxii. 29); to cut off the occasions of sin (2 Corinthians xi. 12); to be sober (1 Peter v. 8); not to sit down in idleness (Matthew xx. 6); to shun the wicked (Psalm xxvi. 4, Titus iii. 10); to cleave to them that are good (Romans xii. 9); to make a covenant with mine eyes (Job xxxi. 1); to keep under my body (1 Corinthians ix. 27); to give myself unto prayer (1 Corinthians vii. 5); hedge up my way with thorns, that I may not find the path to follow after vain things (Hosea ii. 6); hold thou my mouth with bit and bridle, who am so unready to draw near to thee (Psalm xxxii. 9); O Lord, compel Thou me to come in to Thee (Luke xiv. 23).
