MEMBERSHIP PRIVILEGES

As members of branch churches, we cannot too quickly or too thoroughly awaken to our responsibility and privileges as coworkers in the field of Christian Science, and we can best show our appreciation for our healing and spiritual uplifting by taking an active interest in the work of our church and the healing, liberating progress of Christian Science everywhere.

In doing this we shall be helped by the careful study of recent editions of the text-book and the Manual, by imbibing the spirit of our literature ; and by quick and faithful obedience to their teachings. We should know that every member, the newest as well as the oldest, has equal voting privileges; that office-seeking is not scientific, and that rotation in office does away with the thought of limitation, selfishness, and human personality. When we can think of ourselves and others as God's ideas, we know that all can do that which God requires; namely, to "do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly" in Truth, filled with the consciousness of God's omnipresence and the infinitude of Love.

Neither apathy nor selfishness, the products of error, should be allowed to argue that any one should not be alert and active as a member of a Christian Science church. We are told in the Psalms that "out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength." It may seem easier to shirk responsibility than to accept it, but we shall each awaken more thoroughly to our duty as Christian Scientists when we realize that responsibility means ability to respond to duty's call, and as true Scientists, to know that there is only one reality to which we can respond, and that is the one Mind, Principle, Love.
