The apostles' creed and all other creeds are man-made
Plainfield (N. J.) Press
The apostles' creed and all other creeds are man-made. They are not even found in the Bible. Quoting from Judge Ewing of Illinois, the critic says, "There are numbers of creeds. They are all good (if lived up to). To believe in a creed will do you no harm, but a mere belief in a creed (while it will do you no harm) will never do you one iota of good, unless lived up to. A belief in a creed has never healed one case of disease from Christ's time to ours."
Our critic remarks that Jesus said, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel." He ignores, however, the equally imperative command of Jesus to heal the sick. Preaching is easier than healing. We believe that if Jesus did not say in so many words, Go and preach Christian Science, he did give all his followers a command to heal the sick, which is virtually saying, Demonstrate Christianity. The Rev. Mr. Broek says, "Whenever Jesus healed a man, his sins were immediately forgiven." He has put the conclusion before the premise. Whenever a man's sins were forgiven, he was immediately healed. Christian Science does teach that there is no real healing unless it includes the healing of sin. Jesus said of the man whom he healed before the Pharisees, "Whether is easier to say to the sick of the palsy [merely tell it to him], Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all." Thus we see that the forgiving of sins and the healing of the sick are one and the same thing, according to the Scriptures.
