MORE THAN A "CURE-ALL."

Many persons look upon Christian Science as being nothing more than a cure-all for disease, a sort of family doctor, and while they admit the clean and wholesome lives of those who are truly following Mrs. Eddy's teachings, they fail to see the connection between these teachings and the improved conditions which they have brought about. That the healing of disease and the improvement of moral and spiritual conditions are on the same basis is a leading point in Christian Science, and this is clearly expressed by Mrs. Eddy on page 370 of Science and Health as follows: "To be immortal, we must forsake the mortal sense of things, turn from the lie of false belief to Truth, and gather the facts of being from the divine Mind. The body improves under the same regimen which spiritualizes the thought." She also writes, on the same page. "A physical diagnosis of disease—since mortal mind must be the cause of disease—tends to induce disease;" and it is only reasonable to suppose that a physical or material diagnosis of spiritual and moral conditions would tend to induce inharmony also.

While Christian Science is most widely known to the general public at the present time by its work in the healing of physical ills, its work in the spiritual and moral regeneration of mankind is also distinctive. A great many testimonies come to us which show that the writers have turned to Christian Science not for physical relief, but because they were, as a well-known hymn puts it,—
