In a letter referring to Christian Science, the writer says: "Christian Science may or may not be Christian, but it does not impress one much on its scientific side." This is only the opinion of our critic. The hundreds of thousands of intelligent people throughout the world who are daily proving the truth of Christian Science are alone in a position to say whether it is Christian or scientific. Our great Master gives us a simple way of knowing a Christian when he says: "These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

Christian Scientists do not claim to have a perfect knowledge of the vast subject they are studying, and any failure they may make in no way reflects on the divine Principle of the Science. One would not be entitled to hold up the principle of mathematics to ridicule just because a student had failed in the demonstration of a problem. Lack of understanding would be the cause of failure, as it was in the case of the disciples of Jesus, when they were unable to heal the lunatic boy. They asked Jesus why they were not able to heal him, and he said, "Because of your unbelief." Then he added: "Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."
