[Written for the Sentinel.]

PRESENT

Sometimes , when dwelling in exalted thought,—
Viewing the wonders which Thy word hath wrought,
Reflecting on Thy beauteous works the while,—
Then 'tis I see Thee, then I see Thy smile.

Sometimes, when in untrammeled thought I rise,
Led by Thy hand, and freed from fleshly ties,
When in the silence Truth's still voice doth fall,
Then 'tis I hear Thee, then I hear Love's call.
