As a rule invalids exhaust other methods of treatment...

As a rule invalids exhaust other methods of treatment before they will even consider Christian Science. Then in their desperation, as a last chance and with no faith, they seek its aid and are healed. As these circumstances surround most of the cases healed in Christian Science, it conclusively proves that it is the most efficacious system of healing on earth. And why not? Christian Science is simply practical Christianity. Is it too much to assume that the healing method of Jesus is superior to any other material system? However, it is the works that count, not theories; and on this point James says: "Shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." Justly to compare Christian Science with other systems of healing, results as a whole must be considered. In two principal states statistics show that ninety per cent of those turning to Christian Science were either healed or permanently benefited. When it is considered that a very large percentage of those healed were pronounced hopeless by materia medica and other schools, the showing is gratifying. Furthermore, Christian Science is not only a school of physical healing, but heals to the uttermost, redeeming the patient spiritually and morally as well.

When these facts are more widely known, court decisions of the kind referred to will cease. It has been truly said that no one is opposed to Christian Science, but many are opposed to their conception of it. Many thousands die daily under materia medica treatment without eliciting newspaper criticisms or adverse court decisions. In fact, as the comparative results now stand, and in order to be logical and consistent, those losing cases under medical care should be censured for neglect in not providing Christian Science treatment. In a letter to the New York Herald (Feb. 28, 1910), Joseph D. Harrigan, M.D., in commenting on the failures of many serums, says: "Antitoxin for diphtheria has an incalculable number of deaths to answer for." Many of the leading exponents of materia medica agree that it is far from being an exact science, its work being largely experimental. In view of these facts there are no grounds for compelling any one to accept material medica.
