IMMORTALITY

The evidence of creative energy is on every hand, in the heavens above and on the earth below. The ceaseless activity of wind and wave, the never-failing radiance of sun by day and moon and stars at night, affirm the ever-presence and omnipotence of Mind; the unerring accuracy of the solar aim and unvarying speed of the flight of the solar rays, the regular, rhythmic revolution of celestial spheres,—all these attest the presence and perfection of intelligence.

They ray of light sent forth from the central orb, infinite Mind, hesitates not nor lingers by the way, but goes on and out forever,—direct, sure, unwavering, penetrating the length, breadth, height, and depth of infinite being, illuming all things great and small with a light that is soft and clear. Clouds may hide, opposing beliefs may darken, but at the fount and source there is no interruption to the ceaseless outflow. So, within the heart of mankind an ever-welling voice affirms: Man lives, moves, and has his being in the eternal Life! Come what will, be what may—in the noontide of achievement and in the darkness of defeat, on the highest peak of bliss and in the lowest depth of despair, in childhood and in age, in slumber and in wakefulness, we may know that God and man are sure, and that as the gentle beam of living light is sent forth from its source, so doth our true selfhood manifest and affirm the eternal Principle of being. This is the assurance of Christian Science.
