It
was in all probability for material assistance only that the beggar appealed to the two disciples as they entered the gate Beautiful of the temple, upon that wonderful day so many centuries ago, and when Peter corrected the false sense of need and awakened in this poor man's thought a concept of spiritual supply, he leaped and shouted for joy.
In
the parable of the unjust steward Jesus made use of this expression: "The children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
Christian Scientists do not say that there is no pain; in fact, we admit that to the man who is suffering pain it is extremely real; but, unlike our critic, we are unwilling to attribute that pain to God or to hold Him responsible for the sins of the world which are daily committed, and we do say that when man reaches the correct understanding of God and when he reaches out to Him and trusts in Him for the alleviation of pain, that he does obtain the relief from pain and rises to the consciousness of its absence, and therefore its nothingness.
With regard to the lecturer's explanation that the rapid spread of the movement was due to the promise it held out of "relief from bodily pain and sickness," let me say that an important feature, indeed the basis of the teachings of Christian Science, is the understanding that the patient treated in Christian Science must be morally regenerated as well as healed physically.
Fret
not thyself! Be patient, strive to proveThe depth and vastness of our Father's love; When waves break high and winds blow fierce and chill,Our God who rules the storm cries, "Peace, be still.
There
are many Christian people who unhesitatingly accept the teaching of Christ Jesus as the highest spiritual authority, and yet who find it difficult if not impossible to explain or approve his statements and attitude as recorded in the 46th to the 50th verses of the 12th chapter of Matthew, where he seems to have turned away from the human sense of sonship and declared for the supremacy of the spiritual.

My first knowledge of Christian Science came to me on Thanksgiving day, 1895, when I attended a Christian Science service on the invitation of a friend.
I wish to acknowledge publicly what Christian Science has done for me About twelve years ago I was healed of a fever, and ever since I have relied on the Science for physical and mental healing.
I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings I have received from the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and through the aid of a Christian Science practitioner.
When
I awake in that glad morning light,And find myself in harmony with God,—Freed from earth sense, and one with good,—I shallExultant rise to walk on holy sod.
