During the summer of 1908, while spending a few...
During the summer of 1908, while spending a few months with my mother in Tennessee, I became very much interested in Christian Science. I had know of its great works for years, having seen a dear sister healed of a so-called incurable disease a number of years before, yet it did not appeal to me that I needed Christian Science until the time mentioned. I had taken been a church-member for several years (in name only), and I read the Bible because I thought it a duty; but now it is very different, although it certainly does require careful study to get the right meaning. Our beloved Leader has told us that we must heed what it says, and "work out" our own salvation, and the more I study the Bible and Science and Health, the more I want to study them, and I have had some good demonstrations of the power of Truth. A dear baby girl was born to me under Christian Science treatment, and with very little suffering. She has never taken any medicine. I was up in four days, and had no pain, no medicine—nothing but God and His medicine in my home ever since. In our experience with our other baby we had doctors, pain, medicine, and every form of trouble, it seemed, and we finally lost our baby through dependence upon material means.
The Bible, Science and Health, and the Quarterly are my daily companions. The Lesson-Sermons are so good and helpful, and each time they are studied there is always something new to be found in them. Through their study I have learned to have more patience, and more thought for others. I have learned to love every one and see as much good as I can in place of evil. I know better each day how to appreciate Mrs. Eddy's teachings and realize that "every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power" (Science and Health, p. 233).—Mrs. Grover C. Miller, Idalia, Mo.
