The wonderful truth which Christian Science teaches...
The wonderful truth which Christian Science teaches came into our home in January, 1909, through an incident which follows, though words are hardly sufficient to express our thanks. About the time mentioned I went to see a lady with whom I was acquainted and who owned a store, as she was bedridden and I liked to be of some help to her. One afternoon a salesman came in, and hearing of the lady's illness asked if she would not try to get help in Christian Science. Up to that time I had not heard of Christian Science, but I asked this gentleman a few questions, which were answered in such a kind way that I felt a desire to attend one of these services. On the following Sunday I went to church for the first time in years, and I cannot describe the wonderful change that has come into my life since that Sunday. My dear husband, I am thankful to say, immediately agreed to take up the study of this healing truth. We secured the wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and derived from it daily more spiritual light. About Christmas, 1909, came the test which is the chief motive for sending in this testimony.
About that time I bruised the thumb of my right hand, causing considerable pain for the first few moments. As the pain disappeared, however, and no injury was visible on the finger, I attended to my duties just as I had done before, without in any way applying the wonderful teaching of Christian Science. On New Year night, however. I felt such pain in the thumb that I could not sleep. I began to declare the truth as best I knew how, but the finger grew worse. The condition grew more alarming, the arm being swollen; indeed the whole side of the body was affected, and I could neither eat nor sleep, nor do any mental work. In my great distress once more I opened the text-book and noted the advice which our beloved Mrs. Eddy gives us (Science and Health, p. 420), that if we cannot heal ourselves readily, we should not continue to suffer, but ask a Scientist to help us.
