Gratitude for the many blessings I have received since...

Gratitude for the many blessings I have received since coming into an understanding of Christian Science, impels me to offer my testimony. About four years ago, after an operation, Christian Science was offered to me for the second time. A year before this a dear sister had given me a copy of Science and Health, and asked me to read it. I took the book, but said defiantly that while Christian Science might help others it could not help me. I read the book, but did not understand it at all. After the operation, I met a family of four Scientists, and when they spoke to me about Christian Science, I said, "Can it cure the blues?" as I had no idea it could help me physically. The dear friends said that it would help me in whatever I sought it for. I was then very weak and miserable, and looked on the dark side of everything, but they gave me some Christian Science literature to read and explained a few things to me, and I shall never forget how happy I was when I came home from their house. I was actually singing! From that time on, not a drop of medicine passed my lips, and I put the truth into practice as I understood it. I improved slowly, but did not have the depression that I formerly had. The attacks did not last long, and I am now in perfect health. My husband does not understand Science, but he has said he would not have me back in the old way for anything.

Our little girl, eight years old, is a great help to me. As I took up the reading. I would read and teach her, and now she uses it for everything. She says that God helps her to know her lessons every day at school. One morning she woke up with a high fever, and at first thought she would not go to school, but I read to her from Science and Health, and also "The Mother's Evening Prayer" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 389). In less than a half hour, she wanted her breakfast and went to school. Another morning she was quite hoarse, but we sang a few hymns together and all error vanished into its native nothingness. As there are no other Scientists here, my little daughter and I go to Corpus Christi sometimes, to hear the reading of the Lesson-Sermon, as some fifteen or twenty meet there in private houses. This is always a pleasure, and helps us very much. When I look back, I can see that I am progressing, but my desire is to be near a church or other Scientists. I am, however, happy to say that I have helped quite a few to see the truth.

At first I was not grateful to Mrs. Eddy, but the more I understand Christian Science the more grateful I am, for if she had not rediscovered this glorious truth, we might still be groping in the dark. I am grateful to God every day that one was found brave enough to stand alone and lead us out of darkness into light.
