The following testimony may be of help to some sufferer,...

The following testimony may be of help to some sufferer,—some brother who may be called upon to go through an experience similar to my own. One morning in September, 1908, I was working on a hoist which was lifting limerock. My thumb was accidentally caught in the cable, and terribly injured. When I found myself free again I looked at my hand, and the first thought was to cover the wound from sight; then I began to repeat the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468). I had about four hundred feet to go to the office to report the accident and get assistance. By the time I reached the office I was perfectly calm, and knew that I wanted a Christian Science practitioner first and then a surgeon. I gave the clerk the name of a practitioner and asked him to call her at once, but he could not find the number and insisted that such a name was not there. I said to him that if he would let me take the book I would find it; which I did, and I was soon in the care of the practitioner. After this was accomplished I was ready for the surgeon. A buggy was soon ready, and in a few minutes I was on my way without a particle of fear, which meant very much to me. On the way I stopped to speak to the practitioner, as I had to go past her place. The surgeon's work was done without the usual anesthetic, but there was little or no pain. After this was over I went home and put in the greater part of the day reading Science and Health. As the next day was Sunday I remained at home, but Monday I arose at the usual hour and went to work. I had to use my right hand many times that day to write, but this was done with little difficulty. Tuesday my hand was out of the sling most of the day. When I awoke Wednesday morning I knew the demonstration was complete. Thursday the surgeon took the bandages off, and was much surprised to find the wound perfectly healed.

I am very glad to know that one can go through such trials without the loss of a moment's sleep or any pain. I am very grateful to God for this wonderful demonstration, and also to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, through whom the light of Truth has reached humanity.
