THE LECTURES

First Church of Christ, Scientist, gave its second lecture of the year in Powers' Theatre Feb. 6, William D. McCrackan, M.A., being the speaker. He was introduced by Luman A. Field, First Reader, who said,—

In the Bible we find this statement, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." History proves that every great epoch in humanity's advancement toward a truer life has been ushered in by a "heavenly vision" given to some pure and unselfish soul. To Abraham, to Moses, and to the prophets there came visions of a life more perfect than that which the people were living. To Jesus came the "heavenly vision" that to know God and His idea is life eternal, and he proved his vision practical by healing sin, disease, and death; but in the quickly succeeding centuries, the vision was so dimmed by selfishness and fear that humanity lost sight of its promised healing, and the people perished.
