I was led into Christian Science about two years ago...

I was led into Christian Science about two years ago for physical reasons, thinking I could make use of it as I would any other remedy, and then drop it. Little did I know at that time of the spiritual unfoldment contained in this study, but to me this has been a beautiful revelation. I commenced my study for the express purpose of overcoming a chronic ailment of long duration, not giving any thought to my eyes, which had troubled me for ten years past because of an organic difficulty, according to specialists in this line. I had worn glasses for about ten years, and would not go without them at all without severe headaches, and I had been told a few months previous to reading Science and Health that my eyes could never be any better, and that I would be obliged to get stronger lenses soon, and probably continue to do so. I had been deeply absorbed in reading Science and Health for about five weeks,—I read nothing else, in fact,—when it seemed that the voice of Truth told me to take off my glasses. I did so, and read for about fifteen minutes; but the old fear crept in, and I put them on again, thinking I could not possibly read without them. I, however, experienced no bad effects from going without them, so I again removed them, and have not had them on since.

At that time the study of Christian Science was so new to me, and the workings of Truth so little comprehended, that I could scarcely realize that my eyes had been actually healed simply by reading Science and Health. This beautiful demonstration showed me that Truth acts without the human will, and when we concentrate our attention on some ailment and set up an anxious thought, it merely gives us some work to do. To worry and think of any difficulty retards the action of Truth in our consciousness. Mrs. Eddy says on page 381 of Science and Health: "Think less of the enactments of mortal mind, and you will sooner grasp man's God-given dominion." I was, indeed, very grateful for the healing of my eyes, and I have given them much harder use since going without my glasses than I did for several years previous.

Like other young Scientists, I was confronted with many problems, after I had read and studied long enough to know that it takes time to overcome and have a general uprooting of mortal belief, where the tenacity of error seems very real at times; but by an almost constant realization of man's oneness with divine Principle, the Truth which never fails, that which seems true to the senses fades away as mere illusion. I have tested this in more than one instance, and have found that our spiritual supply is equal to all demands; that the demand on our part is not always sufficient for the need, but we ask for more as our understanding grows. The study of Christian Science has had many attractive features for me. I was a student of socalled mental science a few years previous to taking up Christian Science, but its teachings had long failed to satisfy a spiritual craving for something which I did not attain. Christian Science is a practical religion, and I now understand God better. The exposition of the Bible gained through the daily study of the Lessons proves that we have a religion for every hour and every day of the day of year, to use in business, home, and church, a Principle to be applied to error of every description.
