My experience, which to me was beautiful, dates back to Feb. 7, 1908. I was then healed of a trouble of five years' standing, a condition in which I was left when our little boy was born. At times I felt pretty well, that is, when I took the best of care of myself according to mortal sense; but six months previous to my healing, the trouble came upon me with all its force, and remedies which had helped me before were of no avail. I went to a local doctor, and he prescribed an operation as the only help. As I never had had much faith in such things, I began to ask God to show me a better way out of my distress, and He gently led me to Christian Science. I was healed in one absent treatment, which proved to me that there is no distance in Spirit, God. I had at once refreshing sleep, and the peace and love which have been mine since coming into Christian Science are indescribable. Through the study of Science and Health, with the help of a practitioner, I have been lifted above the belief in faith without works to a gospel of works by faith, and as the result of this great change, I have been strenghtened physically, mentally, and spiritually. I fell that I have much cause to be thankful to God for Christian Science. I am always glad to tell others of Truths healing power, which cures both sin and disease, and I have been able to help others with the knowledge which I have gained in Christian Science. The Sentinel and Journal are constant sources of information and spiritual supply, and mean much to us. I can truly say that this has been the happiest year of my life.
I have felt for some time that I should make a public acknowledgment of what Christian Science has done for me, though the part that I can tell is small indeed. I certainly have proved, in part at least, Jesus' statement, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." I know that Christ, Truth, heals now just as Jesus did two thousand years ago, and I am realizing that the Christ not only takes away our sins but also heals our diseases. For a while I thought that I could remain in the church to which I then belonged, but I very soon found that there was much of the service in which I could no longer join. As there is no Christian Science church here, we have services in our home. This truth absorbs more and more of my time, and I am so happy since I have given up all for it. We find that the Master's words are true: "My yoke is easy, and my burden is light;" and surely there are none who feel that their part in this glorious work is a burden. I have no words to express my gratitude for that which has been done for me, and I know I can best show my gratitude by living Christian Science.
We greatly enjoy our daily study of the Bible and Science and Health, which is certainly the "Key to the Scriptures." The Bible is a new book to me. I am striving to be obedient to its teachings as revealed in our text-book, and shall seek constantly to express that Mind which was in Christ Jesus. Every day I am proving this truth in a larger way. We gladly give up creeds and man-made doctrines, but we give up nothing of true Christianity in accepting Christian Science. My gratitude to God is very great, for the health and happiness which are now mine through Christian Science. The physical healing meant much to me, but the spiritual uplifting means much more.
