To those who understand the Principle of Christian Science...

Fresno (Cal.) Mirror

To those who understand the Principle of Christian Science there is absolutely nothing inconsistent or fanciful in its teachings. The fact that these teachings enable those who live and practise them to reform the sinner and heal the sick, proves them to be entirely consistent with the teachings of Jesus, who said: "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;" and, "These signs shall follow them that believe; ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

Our critic's conclusion that these commands were intended for the disciples only, is shown to be erroneous by Jesus' instruction to them: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, ... teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." This clearly shows that all Christians, everywhere and in every age, are commanded to preach the gospel and heal the sick. If, as indicated by Jesus, true belief is to be accompanied by the ability to heal the sick, it is self-evident that there is something lacking in a belief shorn of this ability.

When Christian Science says that miracles are impossible, it is referring to the word miracle as it is commonly undestood—namely, wonder-working in contravention of law. In this connection, Mrs. Eddy says on page 135 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "The miracle introduces no disorder, but unfolds the primal order, establishing the Science of God's unchangeable law."
