THE LECTURES

A large audience assembled at the K. P. Opera House on Nov. 30 to hear a lecture delivered by Prof. Hermann S. Hering of Concord, N. H. He was introduced by Judge Edward Doocy, who said in part,—

I wish to express my conviction that the time has come when the public, and the Christian public in particular, ought to give Christian Science a candid, kindly, and cordial hearing. It is the faith of a million of people, and the members of this church average high in intelligence and character. They have accepted this faith in the face of much opposition and misrepresentation. They believe they have received large benefits both physically and spiritually. The least we, as fair-minded citizens and as Christians, can give them, is a just and generous hearing. The truth has nothing to fear from the fullest and freest discussion. Let us cultivate courage with respect to the truth, and kindness with respect to all who differ from us, and let us give to others the thoughtful, careful, appreciative hearing which we ask for ourselves.
