The basis of Christian Science is purely spiritual, its Principle is divine; it adheres to the first and great command, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Christian Science holds to the inspired word of the Bible, the spiritual facts of being, and the operation of divine law, all of which are revealed truths and are taught in the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation.

Christian Science has not given the world a new God or a new Bible, but it has revealed God by a new name, and it has also given the spiritual interpretation of the Bible. The record of creation set forth in the 1st chapter of Genesis, declares that God created the heaven and the earth and all that they contain; and when His work was accomplished, he pronounced it "very good." Because of the fact that "all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made," He must naturally be the Principle of all true being, thus we know God as divine Principle. God—Principle—creates, governs, and cares for His creation through the operation of divine law. Christ Jesus, understanding the superiority of this divine power or law, was able to perform what the world calls miracles, but to him they were natural demonstrations.

The teachings of Christian Science illumine the Scriptures; they impart to mortals the spiritual understanding of the Word; thus, in the degree that mankind understand God, the universe, and His law, they are able to demonstrate its healing and saving power, which is available now. Only Truth is true, and thinking must go on until it arrives at absolute truth. This is an age of mental activity; the people are awake, they are thinking along the lines of Christianity as taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus. The old theological teaching of orthodoxy, with only a future salvation, no longer satisfies them. They believe that "now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ."
