Christian Science is the religion of love; therefore it is readily appreciated that its manifestation is not found in an indulgence in human differences, but rather consists in an adherence to the golden rule, whereby respect is shown for the individual rights of each to select for himself the healing system or religion he desires. Intolerance of another's convictions and inhuman treatment toward those holding differing beliefs cannot be practised without the individual becoming less than a student of Christian Science and hence losing the right to the name Christian Scientist.

Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the text-book of Christian Science, says (p. 366); "The physician who lacks sympathy for his fellow-being is deficient in human affection, and we have the apostolic warrant for asking; 'He that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?' ... Such so-called Scientists will strain out gnats, while they swallow the camels of bigoted pedantry." She adds, "If we would open their prison doors for the sick, we must first learn to bind up the broken-hearted."

Such motives preclude a possibility for the exercise of an unrestrained human will, which will causes most of the suffering and unhappiness.
