THE MONITOR
I always look at The Christian Science Monitor from two view-points: first, that of a person who is trying to practise Christian Science; and second, that of a person who in working for several years upon daily newspapers had to read eight of them every day, and who knows how they are made. From either view-point I find it to be the best newspaper published.
It is well for us to remember that our Leader established the Monitor because she discerned the need for such a paper and the good it would do; therefore it was to become one of the weapons of the Christian Science cause in the warfare with impersonal evil. Just now it is the advance guard of our army, entering homes and offices and other places where perhaps none of the other periodicals would be found, thus paving the way not only for them, but for Science and Health, for the practitioner, for the Christian Science friend. In this way it is the means of taking to many the "good news" which ultimately will make them free.
There is no good reason why every member of a Christian Science church or society, or every person who is studying Christian Science, should not support the Monitor, mentally and financially, silently and audibly; and there are many, many reasons why each one should give it unceasing and earnest support. Sometimes we may not be able to discern all the reasons; sometimes we may be tempted to believe there are no such reasons; but the fact that this newspaper has been established by our Leader and that we have been asked to give it our support, should be sufficient to cause us to search our own mentality very earnestly if we do not immediately respond.
