I have heard the remark several times lately that one...

I have heard the remark several times lately that one never sees a testimony in the Sentinel from Cape Town, therefore I consider I ought to be the one to send my own, having derived marked benefit from Christian Science. About two years ago I was indeed very, very ill, to all mortal belief, and my husband, family, and friends really thought I could not live much longer. I suffered with an internal ailment, and had undergone one operation, which only made me weaker than before. Then the doctor said that in twelve months after the first I should need to have another, which I felt sure I could never recover from.

But, thank God, a dear friend of mine had heard of Christian Science, and took me to one of the Wednesday evening services, which greatly impressed me, and particularly the text above the Reader's chair: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). Surely my need was great, and I kept that text in my thought. After the service a gentleman, seeing we were strangers, inquired if I would like to speak to a practitioner, an offer of which I gladly availed myself. The practitioner spoke to me lovingly and gave me much hope. She also loaned me a copy of Science and Health, at the same time telling me that people had been healed by simply reading and gaining an understanding of the teachings of that book. I took the book home, and determined I would study and do my utmost to grasp the truth and therewith heal myself.

To my great joy, in a few weeks I was completely healed of my illness of years' and years' standing, which seemed wonderful to my dear husband and children, who could scarcely realize I was once more well and strong. Christian Science has indeed been the greatest blessing to me ever since then, and it seems wonderful that I could have lived all these years without understanding more than I had of our Master's teaching. Christian Science has also been of great help to me in other ways; healing the many little ailments children usually have, and warding off fever, in the case of my son (who is in Rhodesia), and who makes grand use of his small understanding of Christian Science, which, thank God, he gained before leaving Cape Town. My husband, who is also up there, is keenly interested in Christian Science, and knows that it saved my life and has benefited us in many other ways. My family and self are shortly going to Bulowayo to join husband and son, and I am so glad to know there are already a few Christian Scientists up there (one lady writes me such nice letters, and assures me of a welcome among them), and I shall be pleased to join them.
