AMONG THE CHURCHES

Entirely free of debt and standing as a magnificent monument to the gratitude which many in Los Angeles feel for benefits derived from Christian Science, the beautiful new Second Church of Christ, Scientist, West Adams street, near Hoover, was dedicated yesterday [Sept. II]. At four consecutive services, each an exact counterpart of the others, the large auditorium was comfortably filled, members of the other four local organizations, as well as many friendly to the cause but not identified with the church. flocking to the various meetings. Notable both as to architectural design and the artistic manner in which it is finished, the church has been a subject of much comment. The fact that the church edifice, including the site, cost something more than three hundred thousand dollars, and that the entire amount was given without solicitation, is a matter of gratification to those who believe that such a church should be a freewill offering from the people. In connection with the services yesterday, the following telegram was sent to Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, Founder of the faith:—

"Beloved Leader: Upon this, joyous occasion of the dedication of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, of Los Angeles, the love of all Christian Scientists in this field goes out in deepest gratitude to you who have again given to mankind the spiritual understanding of God which this church is teaching and demonstrating."

The address of the Hon. John D. Works, president of the congregation of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, upon the occasion of the dedication of the church, was in part as follows:—
