A recent issue reports a critic as saying at the Anglican congress at Halifax, that Christian Science had killed some and would kill more. It is common knowledge that thousands die every year under other forms of treatment, yet it would be a very extravagant statement to say that all those who were not healed were "killed" by those who were faithfully ministering to them. Large numbers die every year on the operating-table or through mistakes in the administration of drugs, yet it can never be truthfully said that any one has died because he has too much Christian Science. The only effect of Christian Science, which may be defined as divine Truth operating in the human consciousness, is to heal and to save. Failures always result from a lack of understanding. The practice of it is as yet in its infancy, but sufficient results have been obtained to give encouragement for the future, as it has already healed practically every known disease. Many of those healed have been given up as absolutely incurable by other systems. Justice demands that each system be judged by its successes as well as its failures, and that the decision be based on impartial evidence.
