Five years ago I was addicted to the drink habit
Five years ago I was addicted to the drink habit. I had tried many times to free myself, but my attempts always proved a failure. Tobacco also was my constant companion. The excessive use of these stimulants caused me great suffering, and resulted according to the doctors in a diseased condition of the heart. I often became unconscious, and I began to consider my case a serious one. The doctors said that if I did not stop the use of liquor and tobacco it would result in death; but their telling me to stop it, and my doing so, were two different things. Matters went on from bad to worse, until there was little hope left.
One day a stranger came into the restaurant where I was staying, and began talking to a friend of mine about Christian Science. He told of his own healing and advised me to try it. He also gave me the address of a practitioner, who came in a short time and gave me treatment, also explaining to me something about the Science. That night I slept well, which was the first good sleep I had had in many weeks. From that time I began to improve, and the desire for liquor and tobacco lost its hold on me. In about two months I was strong enough to go back to work, and I have enjoyed good health ever since.
Christian Science has helped me in many ways since then, and I am truly grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer of this Science which is doing so much to lift people out of sin and suffering of every kind. May God hasten the day when all shall know this truth.
