Syracuse (N. Y.) Journal

One of the daily papers in New York which for years was bitter in its denunciations of Christian Science, said editorially last winter that Christian Science had proven itself as a religion of brotherly love, and that paper has since made no attack on Christian Science. As this is a secular paper it would seem a bit strange that ministers of the gospel should still be attacking what the world is ready to recognize as a religion of brotherly love. The gentleman rightly says that few people worship intelligently, because few people think for themselves. That they are beginning to do so, however, is amply proven by the growth of Christian Science, for it is a religion which preeminently requires people to think along right lines and to prove their faith by their works. A theological discussion has never yet proven of benefit to any one, and I should not notice the remarks of the gentleman except for the erroneous statement that Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," declares that there is no such thing as heaven. Christian Science is derived from and founded upon the Bible, and the words of the Wayshower, "The kingdom of heaven is within you," are repeatedly emphasized by Mrs. Eddy.
