Many times I have attempted to give expression to the wonderful good that has come to me through Christian Science. I am sure that no one ever turned to this method of healing who came more wholly for the physical help than I did. For some time before I asked for treatment I had been fortunate enough to have the Journal and Sentinel placed in my hands. I read them, as I thought at the time, carefully and thoughtfully, though it was always the testimonies of physical healing which appealed to me; but I have been very thankful for this opportunity to read Christian Science literature, for when my extremity came I knew where to turn for help.
It is now over six years since I had my first treatment, and while I have stumbled, and even fallen down many times, I have always been helped up through the pure thought of Christian Science and have been enabled to go on my way rejoicing. I realize today that no one ever had greater help than I have had. It has been both physical and spiritual. During the first week's treatment I was healed of a chronic stomach disorder, from which I was a great sufferer. The pain would be so severe at times that a physician would have to be called in the night to give a hypodermic injection, which would stop the pain but would leave me very weak and depressed. After one of these attacks I would have to stay in bed for days and live on the most simple diet. Besides being completely healed of this ailment, I was healed at the same time of a bowel trouble of thirty years' standing. After one week's treatment and the constant reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, the light began to dawn on my darkened consciousness, and I saw that it is God who forgives all our iniquities and heals all our diseases. During the last six years the presence of God has been realized many times for myself and family. My daughter was instantaneously healed of an eye trouble of fourteen years' duration.
When the greatest sorrow of my life came, Christian Science was my only solace. This trouble came through the mental breakdown of a member of my family. As he was not interested in Christian Science, he turned to physicians, and when he was not helped in that way he went to a private sanitarium. There he was under Christian Science treatment for eight months, when a normal mental condition was restored and he was enabled to come back home a well man. All of this work was done by absent treatment, and when outsiders have said to me that they did not believe in absent treatment, I have been enabled to realize that God fills all space and that His love is far-reaching; also, to know that opposition to the truth comes from ignorance and not from prejudice.
