That organic disease is being met and destroyed by Christian Science treatment, has been demonstrated to my satisfaction by the prompt and permanent healing, in my own family, of a desperate condition of the eyes; and hoping the story may bring encouragement to some who may be laboring under similar conditions,—as so many of the testimonials in our periodicals have brought and are bringing encouragement and comfort to me,—I am pleased to give particulars of this healing.

At the time I first began seriously to investigate Christian Science, nearly five years since, a daughter, then thirteen and a half years of age, was suffering from an affection of the eyes which had deprived her entirely of the use of those organs, so that she could not even get about the house without assistance. About two years previous to this time one of her eyes had been affected, and trouble was diagnosed by one of the prominent oculists of Los Angeles and treated by him, after some time, successfully. So, when the second attack appeared, in the other eye, recognizing the symptoms to be like those attending the first attack, the child was hurried to this same specialist, who stated that the difficulty was similar to the previous one, and directed that she be taken out of school. All reading or other use of her eyes was prohibited, and the usual treatment was commenced, the patient being taken to his office daily, or as often as he required. The doctor's instructions were implicitly followed, the remedies being administered and all accessory measures attended to in compliance with his directions; but in about one week after the treatment was begun, the other eye became involved, and as time passed both eyes gradually grew worse. The case was continuously treated by this specialist for six months, at the end of which time our daughter was in a desperate condition, her vision being so obscured that it was impossible for her to recognize any one or anything, and it was necessary to exclude the light from her eyes.

It was at this time that she accidentally learned of Christian Science,—a chance acquaintance having told her that Christian Science would heal her eyes,—and she was naturally anxious to have the treatment. But my wife and I, being skeptical, at first would not consider the matter of taking so desperate a case of acute illness out of the hands of the doctors and depending upon something so uncertain and intangible as Christian Science then seemed to us. In time, however, the pleading of the suffering child, together with the waning, on our part, of the confidence previously reposed in the ability of the specialist to handle the case successfully, prevailed, and a Christian Science practitioner was consulted, who made us very happy by assuring us our daughter could be healed. Among other encouraging information we were reminded that the Lord "healeth all thy diseases," and that "with God nothing is impossible."
