Mrs. Eddy's discovery of the present willingness, power,...

Newburgh (N. Y.) Journal

Mrs. Eddy's discovery of the present willingness, power, and practical availability of God to heal through prayer every disease, as well as to eliminate all sin, is a true revelation to this age, and if she has been careful to prevent adulteration of Science and Health by copyrighting this work, her wisdom and motives in so doing should be unquestioned, particularly so in view of her helpful and philanthropic life. This discovery has absolutely nothing in common with mesmerism or any action of the human mind, nor does Mrs. Eddy claim to teach any such personal control.

Christian Science also takes issue with our critic's statement that this Science denies the existence of absolute facts. On the contrary, Christian Science positively declares that the universe exists, and that all created things exist, but it denies that the five physical senses are the ultimate authority as to their nature. It denies evil, because it knows God to be the only creator and wholly good. It does not deny good nor individual existence. The chief end and aim of Christian Science is to overcome sin, and this is the chief benefit to which Christian Scientists testify. The healing of disease is a necessary accompaniment in overcoming evil with good. Christian Science is not complex. On the contrary, complexity arises from misconception of the subject, as in this case. Truth is ever a simple thing. Christian Science has one Principle, one infinite God, Lord, the creator of all, and a logical deduction from this premise as to the nature and character of created things, is Christianly scientific.

According to Scripture, the human or carnal mind cannot discern the things of God. Sooner or later men must decide between a belief in and subservience to this human mind and the spiritual understanding of absolute truth which is contrary thereto. Christian Science declares that this spiritual sense is sufficient to heal physically as well as to save morally.
