"THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE."

The usefulness of the board of lectureship, established by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, several years ago, has been abundantly proved by the results of the work done by members of this board in correcting misconceptions of Christian Science, but that there is still something to be accomplished along this line is shown by the following excerpt from an editorial which appeared recently in a prominent western newspaper, and which we believe was intended to be respected and even friendly:—

Encroaching for the moment upon the field of Mary Baker Eddy, let it be said that most of us are paying too much attention to our little ills, forgetting that we are still alive, have families to support, friends to cheer, and above all, work to do. We think too much about our aches and pains. This applies more particularly to those of us who have not enough work to occupy our attention. The man who has his mind concentrated on his business during business hours, on his fads during his lecture hours, and on his family's welfare and happiness all the time, is not usually to be found spending his good money on the latest remedies, for he has nothing to cure. We will not go so far as to say that illiness always is merely a state of mind; undoubtedly it is often very real. But there are many, many instances where cures have been effected merely by "changing the subject."
