In studying one of the Lesson-Sermons I was impressed...

In studying one of the Lesson-Sermons I was impressed with this thought from Isaiah: "I will mention the loving-kindnesses of the Lord;" and I wish to tell, with the thousands of others, what God has done in our home, through Christian Science. Over two years ago, after an illness of three and a half years, I was asked to try Christian Science, and being discouraged with medicine, and not having any particular prejudice against Christian Science, I consented, and wrote to a practitioner in Omaha. I could not understand how she could do any good by absent treatment, and did not wish to give up all the medicine, but on being advised that otherwise I could not have Christian Science treatment, I consented to this also. I mention this because so many think they must have faith, but I only had the faith to put my case into her hands. But as hope revived, how faith grew; what joy and what a longing to know this truth for myself, when, after one or two treatments, I felt and knew I was to be well again.

From overwork and sorrow I had become prostrated; unable to move. There seemed to be a general breakdown, though I supposed I would be all right in a short time; but weeks had stretched into months, months into years, and though I could sit up some of the time, walk a little, and work some, I could not ride, as the least jar would cause a sick spell. My ills were many and serious, and I could write at length of my hopelessness and disappointments. I would lie and wonder what I had done that God should send such afflictions, for I had been active in church work from childhood, often neglecting home duties therefor. Thinking thus, it was only a step to rebelliousness, and I found no more comfort in the Bible. Now, in the light of Christian Science, how I love the Bible, and what food I get as I daily study it, with Science and Health, and read the Sentinel and Journal!

It was a long time before the last physical ailment had disappeared; but I am not sorry, as it kept me studying till the love for this wonderful teaching grew. Since then I have been doing most of my housework, ride all I please (we live eight miles from town), and eat anything I choose. We are thankful for these blessings, and for having been so gently and patiently pointed to the straight and narrow way which our Leader has made plain for us.
