AMONG THE CHURCHES

The local church of Christian Science has decided to erect a modern house of worship, it is reported, on its property in Ontario. The edifice will be erected some time during the year, and strenuous efforts are being made by the local members to raise the funds necessary for the same. The lot on which they will build the church is very centrally located, being only half a block from the business center and conveniently located. The society has grown steadily and quietly, and this year there has been a good increase in the attendance at the church services and the Sunday School. The society was organized on July 5, 1895, by a few Christian Scientists, for the purpose of studying the Scriptures and the Christian Science text-book, Science and Health. In July, 1908, the society organized, with a board of directors and a clerk, and on March 13, 1909, the society was incorporated under the laws of the state of California. In January, 1909, the society purchased the lot upon which they are planning to erect their church. Taking a retrospective view of the growth of the Christian Science faith in this town, the prospect cannot but be pleasing to the members of that church.—Ontario Record.

The Field will be glad to hear that our little society here held its first service in our new bungalow chapel, on Sixteenth street, between the Strand and Hermosa avenue, yesterday (Aug. 15). The congregation filled all the chairs we had or could borrow. The chapel, which cost about nine hundred dollars, was built this summer on a lot of land which was given to the society by people who do not call themselves Christian Scientists.—Correspondence.
