Recently one who was going through the neighborhood...
Recently one who was going through the neighborhood, collecting money for the poor, conceived the idea of announcing his approach by playing on a cornet the familiar strain, "Tell me the old, old story of Jesus and his love." To me the words of the old hymn were recalled distinctly, and they brought this message: Christian Science is "the old, old story," told in a new and more comprehensive form, and given to us in such a practical way that it can be used to meet the needs of humanity today. We who have realized its wonderful power should speak and testify that the healing Christ Jesus instituted is being carried on in this generation.
I came into Christian Science through conviction of its truth. I saw the application of its teachings in the life of a beloved sister, and the antagonism which I had felt before that time all passed away. Six months later I had my first practical test of Truth's power. I struggled with a severe case of throat inflammation for two days, trying to overcome it with my own limited knowledge. I finally called a Christian Science practitioner, and the disease was entirely healed inside of twenty-four hours. This disease had been an old enemy of mine, and an attack had never yielded to medical care inside of two weeks.
Two months later I lost the use of my right hand. It became helpless from the constant grasp of brush and pen in my studio. I had previously been warned by a physician of the likelihood of such an attack, but I had wilfully kept on with my work. The instant that the trouble appeared I knew that there was help for me in Christian Science alone, and I went at once to a practitioner. I stayed with her most of the day, reading and listening to the precious truths. The next morning I went to work in my studio perfectly well—my hand steady and strong. That was four years ago, and I have never had the slighter trouble since.
